HeatWork – Ice Guard Systems a success

Frozen culverts on the E6 near Narvik cause major ice-related problems every winter. On this site, HW Ice Guard Systems has been installed and is ready for use.
HeatWork – Ice Guard Systems a success
The first test results are now providing solutions that could be described as revolutionary. Thawing frozen culverts and opening them in less than 1 minute surpasses all known methods currently in use.
This winter, the Norwegian National Rail Administration’s Department of Infrastructure Management (North), the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Mesta and the Municipality of Narvik will be testing the newly developed HeatWork Ice Guard Systems to unblock frozen culverts, drains and flood control systems.
Feedback from these authorities has been resoundingly positive.

Waterways are opened easily with HW Ice Guard Systems, and after a few hours, the ice has melted and the ditch is dry.

The first results from the testing are now available, and the results are exceeding all expectations in terms of effectiveness and ease of use.
Testing will continue until the end of this winter, and various methods will be tried out in order to make the system as effective as possible.
Damage last winter cost hundreds of millions of kroner
The substantial costs associated with frost and flood damage have been a major concern for both public and private bodies responsible for infrastructure in winter.
Frozen culverts and ice in waterways are major concerns in Norway.
Cost-effective methods that can unblock frozen waterways quickly and effectively will generate huge savings.
Saving manpower and friendly to the environment
The method also entails a considerable reduction in manpower and resources, and it is a sure winner for the environment. One person can manage the system alone and can carry out several operations quickly and easily, in contrast to other methods in use today.
System and method are patent-pending
The system and method are patent-pending and will give HeatWork new areas of application for its concept.
The project will be tested further by other users this winter, and during spring 2011, HeatWork will have gathered the knowledge needed to make HW Ice Guard Systems commercially available to the market.
HeatWork goes for innovation
HeatWork is well-established in the market, and in 2010, the company increased its turnover from NOK 24 million in 2009 to NOK 46 million. The company expects to continue to expand at a controlled rate, and is currently venturing out into new markets and areas of application with its machines and solutions.
With an output of 100 kW and fluids circulating in hoses or pipes at 100 degrees C, the HeatWork machine is a mobile power plant with many potential areas of application.
HW Ice Guard Systems is one of several new products HeatWork expects to launch soon.
HeatWork AS develops and produces heating and ground-thawing solutions for the European market. Its factory is in Narvik, and production began in 2005. HeatWork’s customers are primarily from the mechanical engineering, building and construction industries, landscape gardeners, hire companies and public departments.
